Today, we’re diving deeper into the intriguing interplay between architecture and rebellion. How have our built environments influenced acts of resistance throughout history? Let’s start with the Architectural Uprising, a grassroots movement that started in Sweden in 2014. Originally a Facebook group, it has blossomed into an international network rallying against the stark and often cold forms of modernist architecture. Many view these modern structures as uninviting, lacking the warmth and connection of traditional designs. In fact, surveys reveal that a striking 75 to 85 percent of people prefer traditional architecture. This suggests that, more than just a design choice, architecture serves as a backdrop for societal values and community spirit.
